In September we went to the last Demolition Derby up in Logan. It was the craziest derby we have been to! Back in August, we went to a derby and it poured rain right before. It was so muddy, the cars could barely get going fast enough to pick up any speed, forget about crashing into each other! They had the opposite problem this time!
It was an all truck derby, so that was fun! They had three truck heats, then a car exhibition, then the final truck heat and the truck bash-to-the-last.
(I forgot my camera, so I had to take pics on my phone. Hence the crappy pics)
They were getting a lot of traction, so they were hitting pretty hard! These five trucks were all locked together until the end of the heat. They had to bring in tow trucks to pull them apart so all of the other trucks could get out of the arena.
There were a couple of fires and whatnot but the first couple of heats were really fun to watch. Then partway into the third heat they had a truck crash into another truck from across the arena , which pushed a third truck over the embankment and flipped it over!
The truck you can see that's high-centered on the bank is on top of another truck, which is upside down and the driver is trapped inside! It took them about an hour to get the driver out, and haul his truck out. (He was ok!)
While they were working on that, a water truck sprayed down the track to help tone down the crashes.
The car round started with a much muddier track. Our neighbors came prepared. I guess they don't like to get dirty...
After the car heat they brought out the trucks for the final heat. They hadn't even started the heat when the power went out and they had to cancel the whole thing! We missed the final heat and the bash to the last! A very eventful derby but I was sad that we didn't get to see all of it!
